The New England Webcomics Weekend

While reading Jeph Jaques' Questionable Content, I noticed he posted news and a link to the New England Webcomics Weekend!

This is exciting since its a free event in Easthampton, MA featuring some of the best and brightest in webcomics, not to mention a large number of my favorites...

Randy Milholland of Something Positive
Jorge Cham of Piled High & Deeper (Ph.D)
Jeph Jaques of Questionable Content

Now, these are just the ones I read regurlarly. There's also the people from PvP (did D&D podcasts with the Penny Arcade guys plus his own print comics), Diesel Sweeties, Saturday Morning Breakfast Ceral (AMAZING one panel comics!), Dr. McNinja, Goats, and a ton more. Here's the link to the Facebook page where they'd like you to RSVP: http://tinyurl.com/fbneww

I'm planning on going (free is a good thing) and will hopeflly get some friends to go to. So should you!

Another Thrift Store Adventure

So, as you might know, I am a huge fan of going to thrift stores and buying ridiculous things...specifically Nerf guns. I've gotten a couple of Nerf items from thrift stores (or the competitor's versions). Here is my newest discovery:

Yesterday I went to the local Goodwill and found the Nerf Vulcan EBF-25 for $8. This was surprising to say the least, since it only came out at the end of 2008. Needless to say, I almost bowled over some old lady to get to it and ran it over to the cashier. Turns out that this one was defective, as the wheel to advance the belt doesn't turn when the gun is cocked. I haven't tried the full auto mode (yes, a bunch of D-Cells turns this into a full auto Nerf gun), but I assume that it will have the same issue or break further. I emailed Hasbro and we'll see if anything comes of it.

Multi-Barrelled Steam Locomoted Rotary Gun

I have begun designs for a 'Multi-Barrelled Steam Locomoted Rotary Gun' which will be based off of the daguerreotype, er, photgraph of me at Halloween a few years back...

Sadly, I never kept this gun (a sacrifice while packing on graduation day) or created any design. My roommate and I created a basic plan via heated discussion in a Home Depot and then I put it together in our room, figuring it out as I went. I believe that it included:

-One (1) 8" PVC sewage pipe in two sections
-Eight (8) segments of 1" PVC pipe
-One (1) segment of 1 1/2" PVC pipe
-Two (2) PVC endcaps
-Gorilla Glue
-Duct Tape
-12v Power drill
-Grinding wheel clamp bit

My goal is to bring down the length in front, add a handle for the left hand, and a set of pipes running off the back to a 'Portable Steam Apparatus' that would be a backpack. Add some paint, leather grips, and pressure gauge and I'll be all set. I'm going to experiment with reworking the interior so that there is more stability in the rotation. It should end up being quite the steampunk weapon once I sort out the flaws in the first design.

I'll have up a sketch of the schematics later.
